Nandatisutta

Ở Sāvatthi.
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
At Sāvatthī.

Ðứng một bên, vị Thiên ấy nói lên bài kệ này trước mặt Thế Tôn:
Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

“Cha đối con vui thích,
Chủ với bò vui thích,
Người sanh y, vui thích,
Không sanh y, không vui.”
“Nandati puttehi puttimā,
Gomā gohi tatheva nandati; 
Upadhīhi narassa nandanā,
Na hi so nandati yo nirūpadhī”ti.
“Your children bring you delight!
Your cattle also bring you delight!
For attachments are a man’s delight;
without attachments there’s no delight.”

(Thế Tôn):
“Cha đối con sầu muộn,
Chủ với bò sầu muộn,
Người sanh y, sầu muộn,
Không sanh y, không sầu.”
“Socati puttehi puttimā,
Gomā gohi tatheva socati;
Upadhīhi narassa socanā,
Na hi so socati yo nirūpadhī”ti.
“Your children bring you sorrow.
Your cattle also bring you sorrow.
For attachments are a man’s sorrow;
without attachments there are no sorrows.”
