Veṇḍu
Veṇḍusutta

Ðứng một bên, Thiên tử Veṇḍu nói lên bài kệ này trước mặt Thế Tôn:
Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho veṇḍu devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:
Standing to one side, the god Vishnu recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence:

“Hạnh phúc thay những người,
Sau khi hầu Thiện Thệ,
Tuân phụng lời Ngài dạy,
Tu học không phóng dật!”
“Sukhitāva te manujā, 
sugataṁ payirupāsiya;
Yuñjaṁ gotamasāsane, 
appamattā nu sikkhare”ti.
“Happy are the children of Manu
who pay homage to the Holy One!
They apply themselves to Gotama’s instructions,
diligently training.”

Thế Tôn nói:
“Veṇḍu!
Những ai Thiền tu học.
Trong pháp cú Ta dạy,
Tinh cần, không phóng dật,
Ðúng thời họ sẽ đi,
Thoát khỏi tay tử thần.”
“Ye me pavutte siṭṭhipade, 
(veṇḍūti bhagavā)
Anusikkhanti jhāyino;
Kāle te appamajjantā,
Na maccuvasagā siyun”ti.
“Those who practice absorption
in accord with the training”,
said the Buddha to Vishnu,
“in the way of teaching I’ve proclaimed,
they’re in time to be diligent;
they won’t fall under the sway of Death.”
