Anāthapiṇḍikasutta
Ðứng một bên, Thiên tử Cấp-Cô-Ðộc nói lên bài kệ này trước mặt Thế Tôn:
Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho anāthapiṇḍiko devaputto bhagavato santike imā gāthāyo abhāsi:
Standing to one side, the god Anāthapiṇḍika recited these verses in the Buddha’s presence:
“Ðây là rừng Kỳ Viên,
Chỗ trú xứ Thánh chúng,
Chỗ ở đấng Pháp Vương,
Khiến tâm con hoan hỷ.
“Idañhi taṁ jetavanaṁ,
isisaṅghanisevitaṁ;
Āvutthaṁ dhammarājena,
pītisañjananaṁ mama.
“This is indeed that Jeta’s Grove,
frequented by the Saṅgha of hermits,
where the King of Dhamma stayed:
it brings me joy!
Nghiệp, minh và tâm pháp,
Giới và tối thắng mạng,
Chính những diệu pháp ấy,
Khiến chúng sanh thanh tịnh,
Không phải vì dòng họ,
Không phải vì tài sản.
Kammaṁ vijjā ca dhammo ca,
sīlaṁ jīvitamuttamaṁ;
Etena maccā sujjhanti,
na gottena dhanena vā.
Deeds, knowledge, and principle;
ethical conduct, an excellent livelihood;
by these are mortals purified,
not by clan or wealth.
Do vậy bậc Hiền giả,
Thấy lợi ích chính mình,
Chánh giác sát tâm pháp,
Như vậy được thanh tịnh.
Tasmā hi paṇḍito poso,
sampassaṁ atthamattano;
Yoniso vicine dhammaṁ,
evaṁ tattha visujjhati.
That’s why an astute person,
seeing what’s good for themselves,
would examine the teaching rationally,
and thus be purified in it.
Như ngài Xá-lợi-phất,
Tuệ, giới và tịch tịnh,
Tỷ-kheo đến bờ giác,
Ở đây là tối thượng.”
Sāriputtova paññāya,
sīlena upasamena ca;
Yopi pāraṅgato bhikkhu,
etāvaparamo siyā”ti.
Sāriputta has true wisdom,
ethics, and also peace.
Any mendicant who has gone beyond
can at best equal him.”
Thiên tử Anāthapiṇḍika nói như vậy, nói vậy xong, đảnh lễ Thế Tôn, thân phía hữu hướng về Ngài, rồi biến mất tại chỗ ấy.
Idamavoca anāthapiṇḍiko devaputto. Idaṁ vatvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṁ katvā tatthevantaradhāyi.
This is what the god Anāthapiṇḍika said. Then he bowed and respectfully circled the Buddha, keeping him on his right side, before vanishing right there.
Rồi Thế Tôn sau khi đêm ấy đã qua, liền gọi các Tỷ-kheo và nói: “Này các Tỷ-kheo, đêm nay có Thiên tử, sau khi đêm đã gần mãn, với dung sắc thù thắng, chói sáng toàn vùng Jetavana, đi đến Ta, sau khi đến, đảnh lễ Ta rồi đứng một bên. Ðứng một bên, này các Tỷ-kheo, vị Thiên tử ấy nói lên bài lệ này trước mặt Ta:
Atha kho bhagavā tassā rattiyā accayena bhikkhū āmantesi: “imaṁ, bhikkhave, rattiṁ aññataro devaputto abhikkantāya rattiyā abhikkantavaṇṇo kevalakappaṁ jetavanaṁ obhāsetvā yenāhaṁ tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā maṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ aṭṭhāsi. Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho, bhikkhave, so devaputto mama santike imā gāthāyo abhāsi:
Then, when the night had passed, the Buddha addressed the mendicants: “Mendicants, tonight, a certain glorious god, lighting up the entire Jeta’s Grove, came to me, bowed, stood to one side, and recited these verses in my presence.”
“Ðây là rừng Kỳ Viên,

Chỗ ở đấng Pháp Vương,
Khiến tâm con hoan hỷ.

Ðược nghe nói như vậy, Tôn giả Ānanda bạch Thế Tôn: “Bạch Thế Tôn, có phải vị Thiên tử ấy là Anāthapiṇḍika? Gia chủ Anāthapiṇḍika hết dạ tín thành đối với Tôn giả Sāriputta?”
Evaṁ vutte, āyasmā ānando bhagavantaṁ etadavoca: “so hi nūna, bhante, anāthapiṇḍiko devaputto bhavissati. Anāthapiṇḍiko gahapati āyasmante sāriputte abhippasanno ahosī”ti.
When he said this, Venerable Ānanda said to the Buddha, “Sir, that god must surely have been Anāthapiṇḍika. For the householder Anāthapiṇḍika was devoted to Venerable Sāriputta.”
“Lành thay! Lành thay! Này Ānanda, cho đến những gì có thể đạt được nhờ suy diễn, này Ānanda, Ông đã đạt được. Này Ānanda, Anāthapiṇḍika là vị Thiên tử ấy.”
“Sādhu sādhu, ānanda, yāvatakaṁ kho, ānanda, takkāya pattabbaṁ anuppattaṁ taṁ tayā. Anāthapiṇḍiko hi so, ānanda, devaputto”ti.
“Good, good, Ānanda. You’ve reached the logical conclusion, as far as logic goes. For that was indeed the god Anāthapiṇḍika.”

Tassuddānaṁ
Candimaso ca veṇḍu ca,
Dīghalaṭṭhi ca nandano;
Candano vāsudatto ca,
Subrahmā kakudhena ca;
Uttaro navamo vutto,
Dasamo anāthapiṇḍikoti.
