Kinnusīhasutta
Một thời Thế Tôn trú ở Sāvatthi, Jetavana, tại vườn ông Anāthapiṇḍika. Lúc bấy giờ, Thế Tôn xung quanh có đại chúng bao vây, đang thuyết pháp.
Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṁ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme. Tena kho pana samayena bhagavā mahatiyā parisāya parivuto dhammaṁ deseti.
At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. Now, at that time the Buddha was teaching Dhamma, surrounded by a large assembly.
Rồi Ác ma suy nghĩ: “Sa-môn Gotama này xung quanh có đại chúng bao vây, đang thuyết pháp. Vậy ta hãy đến Sa-môn Gotama và làm mờ mắt đại chúng ấy.”
Atha kho mārassa pāpimato etadahosi: “ayaṁ kho samaṇo gotamo mahatiyā parisāya parivuto dhammaṁ deseti. Yannūnāhaṁ yena samaṇo gotamo tenupasaṅkameyyaṁ vicakkhukammāyā”ti.
Then Māra thought, “The ascetic Gotama is teaching Dhamma, surrounded by a large assembly. Why don’t I go and pull the wool over their eyes?”
Rồi Ác ma đi đến Thế Tôn; sau khi đến, nói lên bài kệ này với Thế Tôn:
Atha kho māro pāpimā yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:
Then Māra the Wicked went up to the Buddha and addressed him in verse:
“Sao Ngài lại rống lên,
Rống như loài sư tử,
Vô úy không sợ hãi,
Trước hội chúng đông đảo?
Nay Ngài có địch thủ,
Chớ nghĩ Ngài thắng trận!”
“Kinnu sīhova nadasi,
parisāyaṁ visārado;
Paṭimallo hi te atthi,
vijitāvī nu maññasī”ti.
“Why now do you roar like a lion?
You’re so self-assured in the assembly!
For there is someone who’ll wrestle with you,
so why do you imagine you’re the victor?”
(Thế Tôn):
“Bậc Ðại Hùng rống lên,
Vô úy trước đại chúng,
Như Lai chứng mười lực,
Vượt tham ái ở đời.”
“Nadanti ve mahāvīrā,
parisāsu visāradā;
Tathāgatā balappattā,
tiṇṇā loke visattikan”ti.
“The great heroes they roar,
self-assured in the assemblies.
The Realized One, attained to power,
has crossed over clinging to the world.”
Rồi Ác ma biết được: “Thế Tôn đã biết ta, Thiện Thệ đã biết ta”, buồn khổ, thất vọng liền biến mất tại chỗ ấy.
Atha kho māro pāpimā “jānāti maṁ bhagavā, jānāti maṁ sugato”ti dukkhī dummano tatthevantaradhāyīti.
Then Māra the Wicked, thinking, “The Buddha knows me! The Holy One knows me!” miserable and sad, vanished right there.
